Oscars less than one week away… in which categories will Pixar take home the prize?

The Academy awards are only 5 days away, and all eyes are on Pixar after a major year with the much anticipated release of Toy Story 3. Toy Story 3 recieved nominations in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Animated Feature Film, Best Achievement in Sound Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay. Pixar does have a great competition in each of their categories, but based on worldwide box office statistics the closest competition that Pixar has is in the Best Achievement in Sound Editing category. Other than Toy Story 3, nominees in this category are Inception, Tron: Legacy, True Grit, and Unstoppable. Here are worldwide box office sales on each of the nominees in this category:

Inception:

Tron: Legacy:

True Grit:

Unstoppable:

…and last but not least here is how much Pixar made off of Toy Story 3 in the box offices:

Here’s a look at the competition Pixar has for the rest of the categories:

⁃    How To Train Your Dragon- $494,878,759

Of course there are many aspects of a movie and aspects of that movie’s success that contribute to whether or not that movie will come out on top. Some other major points about a movie that may contribute to it’s outcome in The Academy are DVD sales, the music score, and overall plot. Of course here I only focused on box office ticket sales, which did support my hypothesis. My predictions is that Lee Unkrich will bring home the Oscars in the categories Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Animated Feature Film. However in the Best picture category I believe the winning title is up for grabs for either Inception, Toy Story 3, or Black Swan. I have seen Inception and it was a magnificent film, it’s just mind-boggling to me how how anyone could come up with the plot for that film. And Leonardo DiCaprio was perfect for his role. I haven’t yet seen Black Swan, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about that film.

The best of luck to Lee Unkrich and the rest of the Pixar crew, and also the best of luck to all of Pixar’s contender’s on their big night.

  1. Kevin says:

Definitely, with the success that Pixar had with the movie, it’s practically guaranteed for some, if not all, awards.
